Love Poems
As humans, we have been writing down love poems since writing and alphabets were invented. The feelings that love inspires so often leaves us speechless, as though we could not possibly convey the stirrings in our hearts and our bodies. But, even so, we are compelled to at least try. And try we do, as we have done now for thousands of years, by writing love poems.
Love Poems - an integral part of our history
Love throughout time and the inspiration that it has provided many artists with has taught people all through our history that we are and always will be essentially and universally the same. The times may change and with that there are certain aspects of life that also change, but there are many more things that remain a constant and something that we can all relate to in one way or another. Who has not known the passion and the fever that love can create? It can render us almost immobile with no room left for other thoughts or motivations. Whole kingdoms have been relinquished in favor of simple and pure love - if there is such a thing, as it is most often rather complicated and layered. We love for many reasons, most of which we cannot help. Love poems remind us of our own helplessness when it comes to matters of the heart, what we sacrifice and what we gain.
Just as most of us have had the experience of almost debilitating love, so too have we felt the pain that it can inflict. Whether it is from love that is unrequited or love that was, but is now lost, there have been many love poems written on the subject. All we have to do is pick up and read a few love poems to be reminded that there have been others before us and that we are not alone, no matter how isolated our love has left us feeling. There were others before us and they too had deal with the effects that love can have on us.
